Coastal Classic Yacht Race, October 19. The biggest race of its type in New Zealand and inspired by speed record attempts dating back to the 1920s. Yacht’s begin racing on the Friday morning from Devonport, Auckland. The Duke of Marlborough Hotel will be open through the night for supporters, and to welcome the first boats to the bar. Party on the Saturday evening and prizegiving on the Sunday morning, both held at The Pub on York Street.

Bay of Islands P&I Show and Savouring the Source Food and Wine Festival Waimate North Showgrounds, November10 – the 170th anniversary of NZ’s first P and I Show. The Show started back in 1842 close to the site of the Waimate Mission House and is still going strong today, with many of the original pioneer families still involve. Traditional events include equestrian, livestock, calf club, sheep and pet lambs, small animal tent, dog trials and trade displays, demonstrations, colourful food stalls, wood chopping competition and live entertainment with talent quests for adults and children. Hotly contested are all sections in the Exhibition Hall, where special guest Jack Hobbs will be a judge and later give a seminar.
In a marquee, Savouring the Source showcases regional food products, local wine, cafes, artisan food producers and restaurants. The day includes the finals of Kids Can Cook, a Northland Wine Association wine options competition, and cooking demonstrations from NZ Beef and Lamb’s ambassador Brenton Lowe and celebrity chef Paul Jobin.
