Sharing the secrets of the Puketi Forest is a passion for Ian and Barbara Candy and their team of Adventure Puketi guides. Their knowledge of flora, fauna, the magnificent Kauri giants and the surrounding environment is endless, and is shared with joy and enthusiasm.

The track begins at Opito Bay, 13 km from Kerikeri. A sign near the boat ramp marks the access way, which leads between houses and enters the Akeake Historic Reserve.

Fairy Pools are a few minutes walk away from the centre of Kerikeri on Kerikeri Rd.

The Kororipo-Kerikeri Basin is internationally of cultural and historical significance. The wider Kerikeri area offers a variety of great walking tracks and other recreation opportunities.

The track leaves from the eastern end of Mahinepua Beach (end of Mahinepua Road, off Wainui Road on the coast north of Matauri Bay) and is signposted through a farm track to the reserve.

Our cycle trail is one of 18 new trails being developed through the National Cycleway project. Nine of these trails are in the North Island, and a further nine in the South Island.

You can stroll along the river bank to the spectacular Rainbow Falls, where the water tumbles into a pool surrounded by native bush. You may hear tui call, and see fantails flitting about while you walk. The path leads to viewing platforms.
